Character sprites and scenic backgrounds are all pixelated with an old school CRT overlay effect. The style is deep within the game’s identity. Narita Boy brings back the 80s retro-futurism that went global because of movies like Tron and Ready Player One. The game’s stylish look may have something to do with its Kickstarter goal. Over 5,000 backers raised €160,946, exceeding Studio Koba’s goal of €120,000. Kickstarter backers also helped fund the project. Team 17, the group behind Overcooked, is producing the title. Narita Boy is currently in development by Studio Koba in Barcelona. Led by the supervising program, Motherboard, Narita Boy and the rest of the digital citizens look to restore the kingdom’s peace by defeating Him and restoring the Creator’s memories. The rest of the programs begin to panic at the disruption of balance and launch the Narita Boy protocol.
